A little preparation for Semana Santa to make the most out of the week. Comfortable shoes are a must, a little portable or fold-out seat helps rest your legs and keep your eye on the weather. If you understand Spanish then a small radio will help keep you posted on the events, and of course a copy of El Llamador is the best way to know what procession will be where at any given time. Carry a map so you can find your way around. You can download and print (in pdf format) El Llamador here. If you can't make it to Seville you can keep up with everything online in two ways: Seville's tourist office is offering a live feed of the processions on the page: www.turismosevilla.tv. Or you can go to the Ayuntamiento's web cams dedicated to the metro centro work in Plaza Nueva and Avda. Constitucion. Finally, this year they have given GPS units to representatives of each procession, so you can track in real time where the processions are located. To see where they are, click here. Below is the weather forecast for the week with the probability for rain listed, and as always the first few days look a little wet!

Sevilla vs. Barcelona
Location: Estadio Sanchez Pizjuan
Dates: 9 Feb (22:00)

Can Sevilla make its way back into the top 7 for a slot in the UEFA?  Can Barcelona take advantage of Real Madrid’s recent and uncharacteristic defeat against Almeria?  Sevilla, competing well in Champion’s but suffering an up and down season in the league, looks to keep up the momentum and climb the league table.  I hope Barsa wins!

Betis vs. Real Madrid
Location: Estadio Ruiz de Lopera
Dates: 17 February

web: www.realbetisbalompie.es
League leader Real Madrid generally fills up the stands, as many madrileños make their way south on the AVE, and visitors hoping to catch a glance at one of Europe’s most successful teams.  Betis has worked their way out of the cellar with a recent good stretch of games under their new mister, Paco Chaparro.

XXIV Sevilla City Marathon
Location: Estadio Ruiz de Lopera
Dates: 17 February

web:
Almost a quarter century old, the marathon attracts runners from all over Europe.  Beginning in the Olympic Stadium at 9am, runners cross through the city and back to the stadium for the finish.  The weather in February is perhaps ideal, avoiding the heat of the late spring and summer months. Many streets will be blocked so you can likely find a spot around the city to see the action.

Betis vs. Atletico
Location: Estadio Ruiz de Lopera
Dates: 2 December

web: www.realbetisbalompie.es
Atletico Mardird is having one their stronger years after several trying to break into the top level. Betis is struggling with a new coach, rumors of a sale and some anxious fans. A good group of rival fans should make their way to the stadium for the match which shuld make for a good atmosphere.

Sevilla vs. Betis
Location: Estadio Sanchez Pizjuan
Dates: 6 January

web: www.realbetisbalompie.es
A big match on a special day - Reyes! Not much to be said for a game that speaks for itself. Betis - Sevilla is the city rivalry, and like any rivalry no matter where the teams are in the league table it is always a battle. This year Sevilla finds themselves on top, but not by much as they are struggling to meet last year's success. Betis should be ready to try and knock them down a place or two in the city derby.
