Cine
de Verano
Location: Patio de la Diputación,
Avda Menéndez Pelayo, 32
Dates: All of September (22:00 is typical
start time)
A
cheap way to enjoy a movie (2€), with recent releases such as Cold
Mountain. Each has a featured short film before the main attraction. All
in an outdoor setting complete with a bar, popcorn, hotdogs, sandwiches, tapas,
beer and drinks. Cines de verano, what amounts to an outdoor screening,
are a part of summer in Seville. I really love these and the ability to get
up and stretch your legs without missing any of the action. It's like a drive-in
without the cars.
Corpus
Christi
Location:
Plaza San Francisco and city center
Dates: 15 June
Altars are set up around the center streets while storefronts and balconies
are decorated, in this celebration of the Eucharist. A large gate, or puerta,
is erected in Plaza San Francisco for the processions to pass by a large altar.
The day of Corpus Christi there is an early morning "parade" from
the Cathedral through Plaza San Francisco. Images of saints followed by La
Custodia, a central part of the Catholic communion, make up the
procession. Photos

Location: Patio de la Diputación,
across from Jardines Murillo
Dates: All of July (22:00 is typical start

All in an outdoor setting complete with a bar, popcorn, hotdogs, sandwiches, tapas, beer and drinks. Cines de verano, what amounts to an outdoor screening, are a part of summer in Seville, especially before the real heat hits in August. I really love these and the ability to get up and stretch your legs without missing any of the action. It's like a drive-in without the cars.
Feria de San Juan de Aznalfarache
Location: San Juan de Aznalfarache
Dates: June 23-27
We should never forget about all the little ferias throughout Andalucia, or
Spain for that matter. While maybe not the most popular of the celebrations
in and around Sevilla the Feria de San Juan de Aznalfarache should be interesting
with concerts, a couple of nights featuring a giant paella, a car and motorcycle
rally as well as a fishing contest on the Guadalquivir. Of course every day
there will be plenty to eat and drink. Top it all off with fireworks on the
last day!
Fiesta
de la Manzanilla
Location:
Sanlúcar de Barrameda
Dates: 31 May - 5 June
This is a little post town where the Guadalquivir meets the Atlantic
ocean. The festival is the towns Feria, with plenty of manzanilla to
drink, Sevillanas to dance and of course a lot of food, especially
seafood. You'll find all of the activity not far from the beaches on Avenida
Amarilla.
Cruces
de Mayo
Location:
Cordoba
(center)
Dates: 29 April - 2 May
In Cordoba the celebration is much more famous than Seville, as the city
center is full of plazas decorated for the event by the brotherhoods and other
community groups. During the day you can see the floral designs, and by night
the fiesta atmosphere is in full swing, with lights, dancing and plenty
of drinking. There are also several other Cruces de Mayo celebrations in smaller
towns in Andalucia.
