International & Vegetarian Restaurants in Seville

Sometimes you get a craving for something different. There's only so much gazpacho, fried fish and jamón you can eat, right? I know, Spanish food is more than that - it really is! But when your stomach asks for something different you've got to follow it. At least in my case that's true. I suffer too often from these desires and I've looked high and low to find alternatives. Whether it's a taste of home or from another country. And I do have vegetarian friends who come here thinking they'll be stuck eating salads all the time - not true! There are a lot of options out there, you just need to know where to find them. I'll try to list as many options as I can below. You may see some double listings as some restaurants serve more than one type of food. New places are opening up every month, so drop me an email if you think I've missed anything. My stomach will appreciate it as well. Finally, for your other options, don't forget to check out the tapas and restaurants sections.

My recommendations ....

Most of these contain descriptions but those I have not been to currently do not have much information. Each week I'll be adding more descriptions as I try a new one. For Italian/Pizza the options are plentiful and I'm not covering close to all of them. When it comes to finding a good steak it's often best to head to an Argentinean restaurant where they specialize in grilled beef. Many good vegetarian dishes can be found in restaurants which are not strictly vegetarian. In fact some of the best vegetarian food in Seville comes from these types of restaurants.

: Price, from 4 (expensive) to 1 (cheap), this is to offer an idea of the price range.

San Marco
|
Address: c/ Meson del Moro, 8 (Santa Cruz). telephone: 954 564 390. web: restaurantesanmarco.com
Address: c/ Cuna 6 (Centro). telephone: 954 212 440

Address: c/ Santo Domingo de la Calzada, 5 (Nervión). telephone:
Great Italian food, and don't believe the other Seville web sites or guide books which say 48€ for two. You can skip that 20€ bottle of wine and eat plenty for around 25€. Eat at the Meson del Moro location for the best atmosphere - set in what was formerly a 12th century Arab bath. While they offer pizza I'd recommend eating any of the other dishes first. And the salad with roquefort, endive and fresh corn is wonderful. There are several other locations, which all have a unique atmosphere. Most are in renovated 18th or 19th century houses and include period decoration. I recently strolled by the c/Baños location and it has a nice cozy feel. It's just off a side street from Plaza de la Gavidia in the center. A little secret - if you want the same menu but for a better price check out Restaurante Cereceto on c/Pérez Galdós. They are a San Marco franchise which offers more or less the same food but in a more casual atmosphere.

Al Solito Posto |
Address: c/ Huelva, 8 (Alfalfa). telephone: 954 220 917
Recently opened and with two floors it has an authentic Italian look and feel. Real Italians working in the kitchen and bar help the atmosphere as well. A small area by the bar, as well as back and upstairs dining rooms give you plenty of places to sit. Tapas, typical Italian cuisine and pizzas are offered. The food is great, but I must say from my first sampling I wouldn't recommend the bruschetta. Less of a place for tapas and more for a pizza from their wood fired oven or an authentic full Italian meal.

O Mamma Mia |
Address: c/ Betis 33 (Triana). telephone: 954 272 156 web: omammamia.com
Another Italian place on Calle Betis offering typical dishes. This is a chain restaurant with locations in much of Spain. Pizzas are great but you can take your pick from pasta and other specialties as well. Prices range from 7 - 12€ per dish.

Maccheroni |
Address: c/ Harinas, 13 (Arenal). telephone: 954 501 015. web:
Great food in what looks like a store. Well, at least we thought it was a store when we first passed by. Tucked away on a side street near Plaza Nueva, bright colors and modern decoration set this apart from many of the Italian restaurants in Sevilla. The restaurant is run by a family from central Italy and they have incredible tiramisu. But it's not all dessert: the normal offerings of lasagna, pasta and of course veal scallopini are also delicious. Fine cuisine deserves a fine price, so you'll find dinners to be anywhere from 12-18€ per person.

Mia Tana |
Address: c/ Pérez Galdós, 24 (Alfalfa). telephone: 954 226 897.
Comes highly recommended from my sister and cuñado. Aside from pizzas you'll find lasagna, tortellini, cannelloni, and lots of other pastas. They also have a few mexican dishes which are very tasty - try the nachos - along with other "cuisine". We recently ate here and for 14€ we had nachos, a small pizza, lasagna and two drinks.

Pizzeria Napoletana Cosa Nostra |
Address: c/ Betis 52 (Triana). telephone: 954 270 752.
Offering typical Italian dishes such as pizza, lasagna, plenty of pasta dishes and a few meat and chicken plates. What used to look like the brother of Mama Mia has gone upscale with a recent renovation. Modern look, a little of a pijo crowd and what looks like a better, yet more expensive menu. Why there is a wall sized picture of Edward Norton and Ralph Fiennes on the wall I may never know, unless they stopped by before the renovation. A lot of seating means you shouldn't have a problem finding a table.

Pizzeros Angelo y Orsini |
Address: c/ Reyes Católicos 25 (Arenal). telephone: 954 216 165
Address: c/ Luchana 2 (Alfalfa). telephone: 954 216 164
There are now two locations, one in the Alfalfa and another near the Triana Bridge. The Alfalfa location was my favorite pizza place, but they have changed the inside a little and it's less of a pizza joint and more a restaurant. Unfortunately Let's Go "discovered" them a few years ago so it could be crowded, but it is still worth a trip. The best thing is the pizza but they offer a full range of other typical and not so typical Italian dishes. My favorites include pizza roma, pizza 5 quesos, and the moussaka. Prices range from 5-8€.

Porta Rossa |
Address: c/ Pastor y Landero, 20 (Arenal). telephone: 954 226 383. web:
If you're looking for something a little different for your Italian dining try this Porta Rossa, where the cuisine comes mainly from the are around Florence. More expensive than some of the budget Italian places they make up for it with the food and dining experience.

Restaurante Cereceto |
Address: c/ Pérez Galdós 20 (Alfalfa). telephone: 954 220 567. web: restaurantecereceto.com (broken link)
Zebra striped walls! Nice atmosphere, though, and your standard cuisine including pasta, lasagna and pizza. A secret - they are part of the San Marco chain and many of the dishes are the same. So it's a great way to get the same food in San Marco for a better price. Reasonably priced this place is empty during the week but filled with people during the weekend and late night during la marcha on Calle Pérez Galdós.

Domali |
Address: Plaza de Armas (Arenal). telephone: . web:
Located in the section outside the mall around the patio area with 4-5 other restaurants is Domali, specializing in homemade Italian food and various tapas. Cheese, ham and other cured meats from Italy and Spain, as well as pastries, breakfast and coffee.

Telepizza |
Address: Many, many locations. web: telepizza.es
I should be ashamed to include Telepizza in this category, but they do serve pizza! About the only reason to eat Telepizza is if you want home delivery. The pizza isn't that bad, but in comparison to just about any other option it comes out on the bottom of the list. They do deliver just about anywhere and offer salads and other sandwiches along with pizza. You'll see these guys zipping around town on motos just about every night.

Foster's Hollywood |
Address: Plaza de Armas C.C (Arenal). telephone: 954 906 078. web: fostershollywood.es
Foster's is a chain throughout Europe but they win the battle of authentic American restaurants in Sevilla. From the menu look and booth seating to the salt and pepper shakers on the table, waiters and food you feel like you're back in the states. A lot of Americans eating when we were there as well. They have giant hamburgers, and for the first time I've ever heard of in Sevilla, refills on Coke! Famous for their onion rings they also offer other appetizers such as fried cheese, quesadillas, bacon cheese fries, nachos and chicken wings. Fajitas, burritos and chili con carne are part of the Mexican offerings, while 4 or 5 "celebrity" salads are also on the menu, although none have names of celebrities. Your choice of 8 burgers in three sizes, plus baby back ribs, chicken sandwiches, cole slaw and more. Dessert is in many forms, like brownies, cheesecake, apple pie and of course milk shakes.

Sgt. Peppers |
Address: c/ Fernando IV, 34 (Los Remedios). telephone: 954 451 486. web: Sgt. Pepper's
American food - specialties are pizza and hamburgers - in a setting fit for a Beatle. Decoration and music takes you back to the most successful times of the "legendary" rock group. Salads, french fries, a club sandwich and a few spanish tapas are other choices. Kind of reminds me of Sloppy Joe's if you take away the decoration.

Sloppy Joe's (4 locations or more) |
Address: c/ Asuncion, 62 (Los Remedios). telephone: 954 277 728. web: sloppyjoes.es
Address: c/ Periodista Ramón Resa, 2 (Reina Mercedes). telephone: 954 236 678
Address: Camilo José Cela, Manzana 5, Local B5 (Nervión). telephone: 954 923 424
Address: Avda Ciencias, 59 Edificio Compostela B8, 6 Local (Sevilla Este). telephone: 954 475 707l
My main complaint is that there's no location in the center! They offer pizza, burgers, fries, chicken wings and salads: American style with a Spanish touch. They also offer "sandwishes", which I believe is just a typo in their ad. Any of the burgers are great except Viejo Sloppy Joe's. I'm not sure what's in this other than hamburger, but it's a mushy mass of meat with some kind of sauce and it just ain't a burger! The rest are good. Choose from 20 some pizzas, Spanish and Mexican versions included. Some pizzas are missing tomato sauce, or they use little. But I don't know why I'm complaining because the food is really good! Chef salad with blue cheese dressing is pretty darn close to what you'd get back home. Home delivery is quick - look for the guys on the motos with the Sloppy Joe's box on the back!

Sport City |
Address: Avda. Carrero Blanco, 26 (Los Remedios). telephone: 954 272 189
I know, it sounds like a sports bar and it kind of is, but not the kind you might be hoping for. Pictures and memorabilia celebrate some of Sevilla's greatest sports moments. Hamburgers, pizzas and steaks can be found here as well. Just don't expect the 5 big screen televisions with all the games playing at once. I've only passed by and have yet to eat here.

Texas Lone Star Saloon, aka: Tex-Mex Bar |
Address: c/ Placentines 25 (Centro). telephone: 954 210 334. web: Texas Lone Star Saloon
Get your fill of American atmosphere the minute you walk in the door, which is within site of the Giralda. Walls are covered with college banners, assorted stuff from Texas and military memorabilia. Owned by a director of a study abroad program in Sevilla it's more of a place for beer, sports and American/Tex-Mex bar food. Fajitas, burritos and burgers are done well. Budweiser on tap, popcorn, onion rings and NFL games on Sunday make you feel at home. Also the only home of the NCAA Basketball Championship game in Sevilla - 1 day tape delay but it's worth it.

TGI Fridays |
Address: Nervión Plaza (Nervión). telephone: . web: Fridays.com
Taking the place of my much loved Ribs restaurant (La Casa de Costillas) in Nervión Plaza is TGI Fridays. Certainly an American restaurant and worth the mention if you are craving junk food. As with McDonalds, the menu is pretty much the same and tastes pretty much the same. Still, I would have much preferred Ribs.

If you're in the mood for something quick and are looking for a few more listings check out the fast food section below.

Amanecer |
Address: c/ Arjona 20 (Arenal). telephone: 954 217 747. web: Amanecer.es
Address: Juan Pablo 2 (El Porvenir). telephone: 954 629 551
Address: c/ Asuncion 76 (Los Remedios). telephone: 954 451 600
Address: Avda. de la Ciencia Edif. Universo (Sevilla Este). telephone: 954 441 526
Part of a chain of Mexican restaurants in Spain they offer an authentic experience, both in food and decoration. Burritos, tacos, guacamole, quesadillas, huevos rancheros and more. A selection of Mexican beer and of course some good tequila.

Azteca |
Address: c/ Salado 6 (Triana). telephone: 954 004 444.
We went down to calle Salado, which has several international restaurants in a row, plus a few just a block or two away. Azteca is new and looks like a chain restaurant but from all I can tell it isn’t. The portions are not large but the food definitely tasty with some really good tacos (warning – 1 taco costs about 3,80 Euros). Still, we made it out after 4 beers and 5 plates for under 30 Euros. The stuffed jalapeno are spicy and each one with a different filling (beans, cheese, chicken and tuna). The chimichangas look more like large soft tacos, the quesadillas still aren’t the kind I get back home (served in a cazuela, not between two tortillas) but the flavor is authentic. Plus they serve about 15 kinds of tequila. Well ignore the fact they don’t serve Cruzcampo…

Cantina Mariachi |
Address: Plaza de Armas (Centro). telephone: 954 902 917. web: cantina-mariachi.com
Address: Nervión Plaza (Nervión). telephone: 954 414 697
Address: Los Arcos C.C. telephone: 954 527 418
Being in a mall and looking at the menu you get the idea of what this place is all about - Taco Bell, but a bit better. The food is actually pretty good but you feel "chain restaurant" oozing from the decoration and location. Still, if you're in one of the mall's and looking for something different it's a good choice. If you're thinking Mexican and wondering where to go I'd put this way down on my list.

Mex Rock |
Address: c/ Betis 41 (Triana). telephone: 954 331 499. web:
Outside you see they offer “good music”. But inside there's more. And while they're well know for their margaritas and cheap shots of tequila for later in the evening they also offer some decent Mexican food. Fajitas, quesadillas, tacos, enchiladas plus a few interesting dishes outside the typical mexican menu.

Tijuana Tex Mex |
Address: c/ Asuncion 67 (Los Remedios). telephone: 954 458 526. web:
Typical Tex Mex, or better yet Mexican food. All the standards are available including nachos, tacos, burritos, enchiladas, chimichangas and more. Good tequila and Mexican beer as well as a Mariachi band on most nights!

Ajo Blanco |
Address: c/ Alhóndiga 19 (Santa Catalina). telephone: 954 229 320
A little alternative in atmosphere, with plenty of Jazz and a few Feria posters hanging on the walls. Music varies from rock to light jazz. While not a true Mexican restaurant, some of the tapas and dishes are more authentic Mexican than anything I have tried in the above restaurants. And the only true hot sauce in Seville that will kick you in the mouth!

La Tasca del Frijolito |
Address: c/ Torneo, 19 (Torneo). telephone: 954 379 140
A little joint across from la cartjua (center side of the river) on the main strip. They offer a number of dishes, including 6 or so styles of enchiladas, the cazuela loca (delicious mix of 2 kinds of meat, two kinds of rice and beans), Mexican tapas and sandwiches, a large nachos plate, chile con carne, salads, and more. When the weather is warm they have outdoor seating with a view of the Avenida! We managed to order several of the smaller dishes but saw a giant salad and other large dishes come out of the kitchen.

Helas |
Address: c/ Gonzalo Bilbao 26 (Santa Justa). telephone: 954 534 844
Very authentic greek cuisine by a greek chef and owner. You can also buy food products and more imported from Greece. Moussaka and souvlaki are the real deal in Helas, although the restaurant is much more than that! Original recipes plus Greek wine and beer. Reasonably priced.

Acropolis |
Address: c/ Rosario Vega (Triana). telephone:
We tracked this place down after watching My Big, Fat Greek Wedding. We were not disappointed! Like Helas the owner is Greek, a very nice fellow, and also waited on us. He made some great recommendations. The plates are small but priced accordingly. While much of what we ate now escapes me I know we had a lamb stew and three other plates which were all very good. It has a nice atmosphere - about 10 tables and some seating at the bar. Of course the Greek flag and a few other bits of memorabilia were hung behind the bar.

Athenas Taberna Griega |
Address: c/ Pureza, 12 (Triana). telephone: 954 332 467
Just across the Triana bridge and down the next street parallel c/Betis, is this tavern offering traditional Greek food in dishes as well as tapas, which makes it easy to try many of their specialties without losing too much money. It doesn't seem to be open very often.

El Refugio |
Address: c/ Huelva 5. (Alfalfa). telephone:
All good things come to an end, and while we hoped they were just renovating the place it looks like it has changed ownership. Gone are the carañacas and with it their secret recipe and the collection of keychains hanging on the wall (I never got to add mine!). The new place is decent and they offer some vegetarian dishes along with grilled meats. They also serve up quesadillas the way you may think of them back home - not in a cazuela but between two pieces of flour tortilla. Those who can't stand the site of meat may want to steer clear of this place - it is also known for it's grilled meats.

La Habanita |
Address: c/ Golfo (Alfalfa). telephone: 954 219 516
A large selection of vegetarian dishes, including my favorite frijoles con arroz. Fried yucca, ropa vieja (contains meat) and other Cuban plates as well as Cuban drinks are worth a try. They are one of the few places to also offer vegan dishes. All vegetarian and vegan dishes are clearly marked which makes it easy to choose from. Desserts are great, too. While located just off the often rowdy street of Sopa de Ganso, they are tucked away in a little plaza which makes it a quiet little spot.

La Huerta |
Address: Plaza de los Terceros (Santa Catalina). telephone:
Just over a year old and just down the street from my apartment. Lots of outdoor seating and very friendly owners. They offer some nice alternatives to the normal tapas you find here. The tabla de patatas comes with three amazing sauces. They do serve meat, but have a lot of vegetarian friendly dishes. Tapa's range from 1,75-2,50€. Some of my favorites:

  • tabla de patatas con 3 salsas (roast potatoes with 3 dipping sauces)
  • tabla de verduras (grilled vegetable plate)
  • quiche de puerros (leak quiche)
  • espinacas con garbanzos (stewed spinach with garbanzos)
  • berenjenas con miel (fried eggplant with honey)

La Mandrágora |
Address: c/ Albuera, 11 (Arenal). telephone: 954 220 184
I've yet to eat here so I can't offer much. Just that they advertise offering cooking with organic and natural ingredients. Have heard from others that it's a great place to go for original vegetarian cooking and comes highly recommended from a few regular Exploreseville users.

La Rucola |
Address: c/ Torrijos, 1A (Triana). telephone:
A lot of international dishes and plenty of vegetarian friendly food to be sampled as well. Original salads, sushi, Moroccan dishes and foods from other countries make it a favorite in Triana for those seeking alternative cuisine.

Oromana |
Address: c/ P° Catalina de Ribera, 4 (Santa Cruz). telephone:
Plenty of vegetarian and ecological (ie: organic) so it doesn't get much better than this. On the edge of Barrio Santa Cruz they're serving up plenty of vegetarian dishes, some with a little international touch. Meat is served as well. Whole grain bread, herbal tea and a whole host of other goodies, too. The store they have inside also offered organic vegetables, eggs, cheeses and yogurt but they have since taken this store out.

Shiitake |
Address: c/ Santa Clara, 80 (Alameda). telephone:
Vegetarian and organic foods, non-smoking area. Simply full of health! A decently priced menu del día plus weekday specials for two people. Plenty of pastries for dessert plus take out food. I have this all from the email of one person and need to make a trip by the place to check it out myself.

La Ilustre Victima | -
Address: c/ Doctor Letamendi, 31 (Alameda). telephone: 954 389 490
Specializing in international and vegetarian dishes they have a large menu. Middle-eastern specialties include cous cous and shoarmas. Some outdoor seating in the warmer months but plenty of seating inside as well. A decent bar de copas at night, too.

Ajo Blanco |
Address: c/ Alhóndiga 19 (Santa Catalina). telephone: 954 229 320
A little alternative in atmosphere, with papered walls including slogans and graffiti from anyone who passes through. Jazz and Feria posters hang here as well. Music varies from rock to light jazz. Small number of tables and some space at the bar to eat. Some dishes have an interesting Mexican twist to them, all offered with a great hot sauce on the side - you'll be warned la salsa pica! Prices range from 1.80-4€ per tapa. Some vegetarian friendly dishes include:

  • tejano - beans only on request (corn tortilla with beans and cheese)
  • tarta vegetal con queso azul (vegetable "cake" with blue cheese)
  • ensalada de cous cous (cous cous salad)

Cafe Bar Jerusalem |
Address: c/ Salado (Triana). telephone:
Offering shoarmas in their many forms, this is a place for middle-eastern and kosher food. They offer meat in some dishes, but have plenty of vegetarian food to choose from as well. Plus you can eat kosher!

Döner Kebab |
Address: c/ Torneo, 3 (Torneo). telephone: . web: abbasid.net
Another fast-food type joint, but this one's from Egypt. They offer a ton of great vegetarian stuff as well. Falafel, tabouli, humus (however you spell it), rice, pizzas and more. Desserts include baklava and other goodies. It's just like the places back home and thank whoever that they're in Sevilla!

Fresco |
Address: c/ Cuna (Centro, about 1 block from El Salvador)). telephone:
A salad bar in Seville? Plus second course, and all you can eat, for 8-10 Euros? And vegetarian friendly? Yes, finally this combination has arrived again to Seville. The place seems to be very busy, although they have some organizational issues to work out (the cafe which takes up space is never used!). If you need to get your fill and want a salad then this is the place to go. Just don't waste much time looking for blue cheese dressing - it's not there!

Vegetarium (CLOSED) |
Address: c/ Santa Angela de la Cruz, 37 (Santa Catalina). telephone: 954 216 103
Just down the street from the convent is a little vegetarian bar - and it's vegetarian only! Though I must say I got some mixed reviews on this place after having tried it a year or so ago. But it is now renovated and has a new menu. Look for the ceramic tiles featuring herbs and vegetables on the front of the locale. A number of cold tapas and salads are available as tapas. From the kitchen comes a mix of Mediterranean and Eastern recipes. More food available in platos or the menu del día. Space at the bar or plenty of seating in the dining room. A number of homemade pastries are available for dessert. Some dishes are vegan friendly. Economically priced.

Azucar de Cuba |
Address: Paseo de las Delicias 3 (Centro). telephone: 954 228 668. web: azucardecuba.com
Sit back and enjoy an authentic Cuban atmosphere, food and cocktails. While a little expensive you can sample house specialties plus standard Cuban dishes while listening to some great music. Daily Menus include dishes such as yuca, fried rice, and Cuban desserts. Then there's Cuban rum, exotic drinks such as daiquiris, mojitos, piña coladas and cubanitos, cigars, plus some wonderful photos on the walls. Live music on some nights means the drink prices go up - an interesting concept - but worth the price for the ambience.

La Habanita |
Address: c/ Golfo (Alfalfa). telephone: 954 219 516
A large selection of vegetarian and Cuban dishes, including my favorite frijoles con arroz. Fried yucca, ropa vieja and other Cuban plates as well as Cuban drinks are worth a try. Al-Medina |
Address: c/ San Roque, 13 (Centro). telephone: 954 215 451. web: restaurantealmedina.com
Easy to get to from the center Al-Medina is one of the better and more upscale Moroccan restaurants in Sevilla. Reasonably priced, very traditional Moroccan restaurant which includes typical dishes such as lamb, cous cous, kebabs and pastries.

Casa Abdul |
Address: c/ Virgen de Luján, 54 (Los Remedios). telephone: 954 280 469. web:
Very typical dishes you would expect to find in a Moroccan restaurant, including chicken with cous cous, pastel de mariscos (shellfish pastry), roast lamb, mint tea, pastries and more. I highly recommend the kefta, a wonderfully seasoned ground beef mixture, but I'm very partial to kefta. Decoration is something you need to see and almost took me back to my days in Morocco 10 years ago.

Al-Diuan |
Address: c/ Leon XIII, 8 (Macarena). telephone: 954 362 122. web:
There specialty is Middle-eastern as opposed to Moroccan. Wonderful rice, kebabs, shawarmas, and more. This comes highly recommended from Eric at Discoversevilla, but I've yet to make my way over.

As-Sawirah |
Address:
c/ Galera, 5 (Arenal). telephone: 954 562 268. web:
Typical Moroccan cuisine such as chicken with cous cous and a number of meat pastries. Medium price range.

Aladdin |
Address: c/ Santa Maria la Blanca (Santa Cruz). telephone: . web:
With a small dining area in the back, the front part is roasting hot from the chicken and lamb shoarmas spinning round. Plenty of vegetarian options as well. Just about everything can be prepared for take away.

Ali Baba |
Address: c/ Betis (Triana). telephone: . web:
A fast food joint but a good one. Get a taste of Lebanon as they serve up kebabs, shawarmas, falafel and other middle-eastern dishes. It's a small place with maybe 5-6 tables and a counter where you can place your order.

Cafe Bar Jerusalem |
Address: c/ Salado (Triana). telephone:
Offering shoarmas in their many forms, this is a place for middle-eastern and kosher food. From lamb, chicken and beef plus their famous sauces. Plenty of vegetarian food to choose from as well. Calle Salado has a nice little international feel to it with a Chinese, Japanese, Israeli, and Argentinean restaurants all within a few blocks of each other.

Döner Kebab |
Address: c/ Torneo, 3 (Torneo). telephone: . web: abbasid.net
Another fast-food type joint. They offer a ton of great stuff, at least in my book. Falafel, tabouli, humus (however you spell it), many kebabs, gyros, rice, pizzas and more. Desserts include baklava and other goodies. It's similar to the places back home and thank whoever that they're in Sevilla. One note - while they have beer signs outside they only serve non-alcoholic beer.

Bagdad Cafe y Teteria |
Address: c/ Pureza 22 (Triana). telephone: . web:
Less food, but some. I would say more tea and pastries.

Restaurante Shalimar Hindu Tandoori |
Address: c/ Javier Lasso de la Vega 9 (Centro). telephone: 954 382 681. web:
Now open they have a good selection of typical dishes from India. I've received some mixed reviews about the food, but good reviews about the friendly service.

La Maria Bodega |
Address: c/ Betis (Triana). telephone: 954 338 461.
Located just across the river where all the late night action happens. La Maria has been here for years, serving up savory cuts of meat, grilled to perfection.

El Portalón |
Address: Avda de Málaga, 6 (Enramadilla). telephone: 954 532 736
You'll see it's really part Spanish and part Argentinean when you first glance at the menu. Either way you won't be disappointed, but if you come here looking for the Argentinean part the grill is hot and cooking up some mouthwatering slabs of ternera, or beef.

Parrilla Argentina Atahualpa |
Address: c/ Salado, 9 (Triana). telephone: 954 277 712.
Excellent grilled beef as it should be in an Argentinean restaurant.

El Refugio |
Address: c/ Herbolarios (Alfalfa). telephone:
You may have read above that ownership has changed. The new place is pretty good and they offer some vegetarian dishes along with grilled meats. They also serve up quesadillas the way you may think of them back home - not in a cazuela but between two pieces of flour tortilla. Try the parillada for a mixed grill of two types of sausage, two kinds of beef and chicken. Grilled beef by itself and beer from Argentina (can't remember the brand) are also served.

La Nieta de Pepa |
Address: c/ Rodrigo Caro 7 (Santa Cruz). telephone: 954 560 726
Meat imported from Argentina as it should be in a real Argentinean restaurant! Same goes for the beer. Good seating outside in the plaza in Santa Cruz.

Pamperito |
Address: c/ Salado, 2 (Triana). telephone:
Yet another alternative from Argentina in Triana close to a number of other international restaurants. They have affordable menus of the day, starting over 5€ and serve up grilled meat as well as other dishes.

Restaurante Japonés Kaede |
Address: c/ San Fernando, 2 (Centro). telephone: 954 917 000. web: Restaurante Japonés Kaede
Located in the Hotel Alfonso XIII means it will be expensive. But it also means it's quite good. They say they're the best Japanese restaurant in Sevilla and I think they're right. Aside from specializing in sushi they also offer the typical arrangement where the food is prepared by the chef on the grill in front of you. The house menu will fill you up for 17€, but then there's the drink.

Get your authentic sushi boat here! Plenty of specialties with authentic Vietnamese, Thai and Cantonese food aside from the Japanese cuisine. A little bit of everything, and quite tasty from the Thai experience I had. Ample seating, well lit and very nice staff.

Restaurante Japonés & Coreano Jin Da Lai |
Address: Marques de Parada, about 1 block from Reyes Católicos (Arenal). telephone:
Recently remodeled they offer various menus, ranging in price from 8-20€. Spring rolls, sushi and some typical Korean dishes as well.

Another place where you can get your meat, seafood and vegetables grilled right in front of you. Sushi and udon, great noodle soups, are the other mainstays. Nicely decorated. And if you can't make it here to eat there's always the telesushi service - home delivery!

Sakura Restaurante Japonés |

Stands out from other Japanese restaurants in Sevilla offering more budget friendly dishes. Starting with menus from 5€ during the day you can eat well without spending a lot.

It's been a while since I visited, so memory must serve me well. This is located in the heart of the tourist district but they have some affordable dishes and a reasonably priced menu del día. There is a lot to choose from - a very large menu which may make it harder to make a choice. I had fried rice the last time and it was fairly tasty. Ok, I've got to be honest in that I've yet to find a good Chinese restaurant like back home. The food is good for Sevilla Chinese food but doesn't live up to the choices back in the states. Anyway, they are nice folks running the place, they have a cool fish tank and a very authentic looking place.

Restaurante Chino Ciudad Dong Hai |
Address: c/ Aponte, 4 (Centro) telephone: 954 381 358. web:
Cheap eats here for those on a budget. Plus get all your shopping and calling done! Well, maybe not but they also own a great little chinese supermarket, Hiper Oriente, and a locutorio, where you can make phone calls. Nice folks at the market. As for the food it's not bad, but like I said above about the Chinese food here...

Gran Muralla Restaurante Chino |
Address: c/ Muñoz Leon, 8 (Macarena). telephone: 954 378 268. web:
A family favorite - my sister and brother-in-law love this place. I've been once and we had a very good meal of beef in oyster sauce and some good fried rice. Egg rolls, like most places in Sevilla, are much bigger than back home. Service was good, price as well, and atmosphere was what you would expect.

Thai Mös |
Address: Avda de Malaga, 6 (Enramadilla). telephone: 954 532 910. web:
One of Seville's Thai only restaurants is just across the avenue from the Jardines Murillo and close to the Prado de San Sebastian bus station. The atmosphere is certainly nice, with enough plants (and humidity) to make you feel as if you were in a rain forest. A sampling of the dishes: wonderful salads, decent noodles and some spring rolls which lacked any taste whatsoever. Many of the dishes can be shared between 2 people, which makes the high prices a little less than expected. Overall we enjoyed it, but note it's not a place for a cheap meal.

Asian cuisine in a relaxed atmosphere. They have a nice terrace on the roof as well as some late night discoteca and copas. There is some style to this place...

Burger King
Address: Centro - Campana (Centro). web: burgerking.es
Address: Centro - Reyes Católicos (Arenal)
Address: c/ Canal Ronda del Tamarguillo (Nervión)
Address: c/ Luis Montoto (Nervión)
Address: Avda de Kansas City, close to train station (Santa Justa)
The Whopper, hamburgers, fries and onion rings. As with McDonald's it's all here and it all tastes the same, although to me the Whopper seems smaller. Ok, I am convinced the Whopper is smaller. In February they opened their newest location in La Campana next door to McDonald's.

Kentucky Fried Chicken
Address: Reyes Católicos (Arenal).
web: kfc.es
Just opened in October of 2003 it's the newest American fast food restaurant to come to Sevilla. The menu is pretty much the same as it is in the States - chicken meals, buckets of chicken and side dishes. Somehow 15 Euros for an 8-piece bucket of chicken seems very expensive. Perhaps they're paying for the chicken's airfare to Spain? They do offer two "burgers", which are really chicken sandwiches. Well located and with a good amount of outdoor seating when it's warm.

McDonald's
Address: Campana, 5 (Centro). web: mcdonalds.es
Address: Plaza de Armas (Arenal)
Address: Republica Argentina, 25 (Los Remedios)
Address: Paseo de las Delicias, 5 (Centro-Puerta Jerez)
Big Mac, quarter-pounder with cheese, fries...it's all here except breakfast. Amazingly it all tastes exactly the same as back home, too. If you want breakfast at a McDonald's in Europe you have to head north, as in Germany and the UK.

Pans & Company
Address: La Campana (Centro). web: pansandcompany.com
Address: Plaza de Armas C.C. (Arenal)
Address: Nervión Plaza (Nervión)
When Subway left Sevilla some years ago Pans & Company took over as the chain sandwich restaurant. Offering about 20 subs or bocadillos on some chewy bread they have a few international sandwiches along with their take on traditional Spanish bocadillos. Many locations in the center and elsewhere make it a fast food alternative with (in some cases) less grease.

Pizza Hut
Address: Reyes Católicos (Centro). web: pizzahut.es
Address: c/ Luis de Morales, 20 (Nervión)
Address: Avda Republica Argentina, 3 (Los Remedios)
Address: Avda Carrero Blanco, 26 (Los Remedios)
Address: Rda Capuchinos, 3.
Pizza and...pizza!! A few spanish takes on the otherwise American chain menu. I've never been a fan of Pizza Hut pizza, but unlike McDonalds, it's not quite the same as in the U.S. Actually, it's a little worse, but in that respect, fairly similar.

Starbucks
Address: Avda Constitución (Centro).
web: starbucks.es
Address: La Campana (Centro)
Address: c/ San Fernando, 1 (Puerta Jerez-Centro)
Address: Nervión Plaza (Nervión)
We were invited to the grand opening of Sevilla's second Starbucks just before the Christmas holidays. The second location is in Nervión Plaza on the ground floor close to where the supermarket Mas y Mas is located. This is a little smaller than the first location on Avda Constitución near the Cathedral, but they are serving up the same coffee and pastries. For those seeking a smoke-free place to enjoy coffee they also have a non-smoking section. The location by the Cathedral offer wireless internet access (WiFi) but at a price. Locations which recently opened include Puerta de Jerez, just across from Hotel Alfonso XIII and the University of Seville, and the latest is La Campana, in the U.S. effort to cover this area with our own creations (ie: McDonald's, Burger King, Ben & Jerry's).

Sloppy Joe's (4 locations)
Address: c/ Asuncion, 62 (Los Remedios). telephone: 954 277 728. web:

Telepizza
Address: Many, many locations.
web: telepizza.es
About the only reason to eat Telepizza is if you want home delivery. The pizza isn't that bad, but in comparison to just about any other option it comes out below. They do deliver just about anywhere and offer salads and other sandwiches along with pizza. You'll see these guys zipping around town on motos just about every night.

Il Forno
Address: c/ Trajano, 44 (Alameda). telephone:
If you want to do some international dining but don't know exactly what you want then try Il Forno on calle Trajano. They offer a number of Italian dishes as the name would indicate, but they also offer plenty of recipes from other countries with Mexican, Greek, and Eastern inspired platos and salads.
