The summer is here, and while May was unseasonably cool, one would have to be foolish to think it would stay that way. The months of June, July and August bring a heat that can at times keep you indoors. Adopting the local schedule is a piece of advice I always give to those visiting during the summer. Enjoying a long siesta en taking advantage of the fact that it’s light out until 10pm can keep the heat away. Another way to beat the heat when you’re visiting the city is to book a hotel with a swimming pool! In many cases this means a roof top pool, but there are many of options to choose from in the city when the heat is up, but the rates are at their lowest.
Hotel Doña Maria
An excellent location, with a large roof terrace that includes a bar, plenty of seating and a swimming pool, all with a wonderful view of the Giralda and Cathedral. Just behind the hotel on either side are the shady streets of Santa Cruz.
Hotel Rey de Baeza
Just behind the Casa de Pilatos, the pool and roof terrace have just been renovated, complete with a bar and Thursday night jazz sessions. Several patios and sitting rooms, massages and corporal treatments are other chill activities.
Hotel Las Casas de la Juderia
Covering over 16 houses in the juderia section of Seville, one of the buildings has a solárium and roof top swimming pool. The hotel is well-known, but the new swimming pool seems to be the best kept secret!
Hotel Villa de la Palmera
Outside the city center, the only hotel pool surrounded by more than 10 species of trees and more exotic flowers. If you want the feel of a country house, large rooms and a shady pool, this is a great spot. The shady terrace and two living rooms decorated with Murillo paintings will keep you cool as well.
Hotel Eme
The newest and most modern addition to the Seville hotel scene. You’ll feel as if you stepped into a modern and hip hotel in NYC. With several restaurants and bars, there is also the attraction of several roof top terraces and a swimming pool with a perfect view of the Cathedral. With all of the eateries and bars connected within the hotel, you may never leave to experience the heat.
Hotel Fernando III
Likely the least expensive four star with a swimming pool. From here you get views of Santa Cruz, including the Giralda and several churches. The location is very good as well and close to the major monuments as well as the Carboneria, which has a nice summer terrace bar.
Hotel Husa Los Seises
In what was once part of the Archbiships palace, Los Seises is known for its large roof terrace and pool with amazing views of the Giralda.
Hotel NH Plaza de Armas
Close to the river, convenient to Triana and the center, this is more a a business hotel. But it has it’s modern comforts, including a nice sized pool.
Hotel Abba Triana
A new hotel which will truly benefit from the Feria moving to the Charco de la Pava location in a few years. The hotel has a nice view of the river, and you can see the entire city center from the pool. At night you can walk along the newly renovated Paseo de la “O”, a nice cool river walk in Triana.
Hotel Becquer
Well located just a few blocks from Plaza de la Magdalena, Hotel Becquer has plenty of rooms and a roof top swimming pool. Their tapas bar is also pretty darn good. There is a spa and restaurant, so you can keep yourself cool by not leaving the hotel.
Hotel Alfonso XIII
As low as prices get in the summer, I don’t think you could ever consider the Alfonso XIII a cheap hotel. Still, they have a nice outdoor pool and one of the best historic settings in the city. Take the tram to Plaza Nueva or the Park, although you may feel robbed for paying 1 Euro to go 200 meters. But if it’s hot, the air-conditioning is nice.
Hotel San Gil
Hidden away in the Macarena where you’d never expect to find a four star hotel. Hotel San Gil is out of the way in a less touristy neighborhood, but one of my favorites for those after 9pm walks when things cool down.
Hotel Don Paco
I think this is the only three star hotel in the city with a swimming pool. This is modern, and often caters to package tours. But the roof top pool is nice, and the location is very good for tapas and restaurants around the Santa Catalina neighborhood.
Hotel Al-Andalus
Another out of the city center location like Villa de la Palmera. In contrast to Villa de la Palmera, this hotel is large and very modern. Good summer rates help you afford the taxi rides you’ll need to get to the city center. But it comes recommended from expats with cars who don’t mind a little ride into the center.
